Hawaii: Anti-Gun Bills Scheduled for Decision Making Hearings in the Senate Judiciary Committee

Two anti-gun bills have been scheduled for decision making only hearings in the Senate Judiciary Committee that are set to take place on February 23rd and February 27thSenate Bill 3196 and Senate Bill 2845 will place further restrictions on your Second Amendment Rights by expanding the existing "assault pistol" ban to include certain rifles and shotguns and implementing new age restrictions for ammunition. Please consider submitting testimony OPPOSING SB 3196 and SB 2845 through the Hawaii Legislative website. For help creating an account and submitting testimony, click here.

Friday February 23 9:30 a.m. - Senate Judiciary Committee

SB 3196 expands upon Hawaii’s existing “assault pistol” ban to now include other commonly owned rifles and shotguns by instituting restrictions based on the name of the firearm and a “single feature” test. SB 3196 is poorly drafted and expansive in such a fashion that so-called “features” could be left open to interpretation. Given the recent ruling by the Hawaii Supreme Court, rebuking the Bruen decision, it’s likely to see restrictions viewed in the most unfavorable light for lawful gun owners.

Tuesday February 27 10:00 a.m. - Senate Judiciary Committee

SB 2845 prohibits persons under the age of 21 from purchasing or possessing ammunition. This legislation follows a similar tactic taken by other anti-gun states, pushing laws that discriminates against young adults from lawfully exercising their Second Amendment Rights.

Once again, please submit testimony opposing SB 3196 and SB 2845 through the legislative website and by contacting members of the Senate Judiciary Committee.

Continue to check your inbox and the NRA-ILA website for updates concerning your Second Amendment Rights and hunting heritage.
